Indigents - Assigned Counsel

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has set the payment for transcripts for assigned counsel, pro se and indigents at $3.00 per page, to be paid by the Commonwealth. . Each copy of the original is .75 per page.

The Executive Branch charges private attorneys and pro se the same amount as set by the Commonwealth.

All Transcripts are prepared in the format required pursuant to Mass. R. App. P. 8 (b) (3).

We have not raised our prices EVER above those set by the Commonwealth.

All transcripts and copies are bound with an Executive Branch printed binder with a see through cover.

Tell us how many  tapes you need transcribed and the tape format and  we will  estimate the cost for the transcript. After  reviewing the tapes for time and quality, a closer estimate can be given. One half of the estimated cost should accompany the tapes and the remaining cost is due upon completion of the transcript.

In the case of indigents and/or assigned counsel, only the proper documentation is needed.

If an attorney is assigned counsel or pro bono, or if the appellant is pro se and indigent the Commonwealth MAY pay for the cost of one original and two copies (as well as the copies of the cassette tapes you will have to order).
